Ryan Garcia, the 23-year-old from Orange County who lives in Los Angeles, was fast out of his corner and aggressive from the opening bell in his fight against Emmanuel Tagoe on April 9th, 2022, in San Antonio.
Garcia, who holds a record of 23-1 with 19 knockouts, outlanded Tagoe 94 to 74 in total punches and 77 to 51 in power punches, according to CompuBox statistics. However, Tagoe was able to withstand Garcia's early onslaught and even landed some clean shots of his own.
The fight turned in Tagoe's favor in the seventh round when he landed a devastating left hook that sent Garcia to the canvas. Garcia was unable to beat the count, and Tagoe was declared the winner by knockout.
The loss was the first of Garcia's professional career and a major setback for the rising star. However, Garcia has vowed to come back stronger and learn from his mistakes.
"I'm going to learn from this and come back stronger," Garcia said after the fight. "I'm still young and I have a lot of time to improve."
