HECS-HELP debt relief: Albanese plan to wipe $3 billion for 3 million Aussies

ATO releases list of 100 largest HELP-HECS debts

Average debt of $26,500, measure would cut about $1,200 from their balance

Australians have incurred a total student debt of over $100 billion, according to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

The Albanese government has announced plans to wipe $3 billion in HECS-HELP student debt for three million Australians.

The ATO has released the country's 100 largest HELP-HECS debts through a Freedom of Information request.

The average debt on the list is $26,500, and the measure would cut about $1,200 from their balance.

The credit for someone with a debt of $100,000 would be $4,000.

The government will roll out its plans for HECS-HELP debt relief in the coming months.
