Chicago Wakes to Storm Damage After Night of Tornadoes
Tornadoes Touch Down, Causing Widespread Damage
After a stormy night, the Chicago area awoke to widespread power outages and downed trees. At least 11 tornadoes touched down in parts of the region, damaging homes and uprooting trees. A local news station broadcast live coverage, warning of possible tornadoes throughout the Chicagoland area. The National Weather Service issued 16 tornado warnings.
Tornado Activity in Iowa and Ohio
In addition to the tornadoes in the Chicago area, two tornadoes were reported near Des Moines, Iowa, and another just outside O'Hare Airport. The Weather Service also confirmed a tornado touched down near Sugar Grove, Illinois.
